My First Posting

Now that I've been teaching computers skills for three years, I figured it's about time I started a blog. I think it is important for my students to be introduced to the concept of blogging and it might just turn out to be a great way for me to get some of my crazy ideas out of my head...

Introductions...I will soon be starting my 10th year in the Ventura Unified School District, the same district that I received my own public education in. Six of those glorious years, were spent at Lincoln Elementary school where I taught 3rd and 5th grade. From there I spent a year at De Anza Middle School and then I moved on to my current school Balboa Middle School. At Balboa I teach computer skills to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. I also teach the yearbook class, which I am proud to say, has produced two great books, two great DVD yearbooks, Newspapers, and just this last year we have been producing a somewhat weekly newscast.

So now that you know where I have been, let's find out where we are going. Presently I am in the middle of our summer vacation before the 2009/2010 school year. Being that computers are a part of my daily life throughout the school year, I must admit, I haven't been on a computer for more than a couple of minutes since our break started. The idea of doing this blog hit me while I was laying in bed watching TV, being bored out of my mind. Maybe I will rant and rave on the boredom I face on a regular basis when I rely on television to keep my always racing mind entertained at a later date...I am sure it would be a good read! Anyway, we'll see how this blog thing goes. Hopefully I don't have to force my students too much to get involved. Hopefully they can find it an interesting way to interact with one of the positive forces in their lives.

I think at this point, I should wrap it up, but I thought I would leave the reader with a few ideas of future blogs to come;

My Summer Vacation
Computers, past present and future
Building a solar panel at school
Attitude is everything!
What's my motivation?
Is there anything I haven't thought I could do?
Why I want to get an Xbox for the classroom

If you have read this far, thanks! Let me know what you think.
